Drinking whey protein stimulates satiety, which may help you lose weight.

In this article, we will discuss whey protein drinks and diet.

As muscle training and working out at the gym have become popular, some people have started to drink whey protein drinks.Whey protein drinks are expected to be effective for muscle training, but what about diet? Here is a review of a study on the subject.

The study

Appetite (satiety/hunger as measured by visual analog scale or VAS)

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effects of isocaloric beverages containing whey protein or maltodextrin (preloaded) on glucose metabolism control (blood glucose/insulin).The subjects were young women who were judged to be obese (n = 9; age: 18.1 ± 3.0 years; body mass index, BMI: 38.8 ± 4.5 kg/m²).

These drinks significantly enhanced satiety and reduced hunger, with the effects being more apparent with whey protein than with maltodextrin.

Similarly, GLP-1 and PYY levels (but not PP) were significantly increased after consumption of each drink.These appetite suppression responses were higher for whey protein than for maltodextrin.

Insulinemia increased similarly after each drink, but whey protein elicited a lower glycemic response than maltodextrin.There was no difference in satiety or hunger after the meal.The lack of difference in the results may have been due to the delay in the meal test and the disappearance of the appetite reducing effect of whey protein.

Reviewer's Conclusion

Whey protein does indeed reduce appetite, stimulate anorexic gastrointestinal peptides, and improve glucose metabolism homeostasis in young obese women, but when administered as a preload before a meal, additional research is imperative to demonstrate its appetite reducing effects in obese subjects.

Conclusion 

The results of this study suggest that drinking a whey protein-containing beverage can increase satiety and decrease hunger.Of course, just drinking this drink will help you lose weight! Of course, it's not just a matter of drinking this drink and losing weight, but it's also a matter of improving your eating habits and not exercising too much.Again, just because you drink it doesn't mean you will lose weight! That's what I mean.
