Cell Phone Use and Brain Tumor Risk: Update on Study of One Million Women in the UK

JNCI: Journal of the National Cancer Institute, djac042, https: //doi.org/10.1093/jnci/djac042

Commentary

The study covered the years 1996-2001 and included 1.3 million women born between 1935 and 1950. The subjects were asked questions about their cell phone use, and records of deaths and cancer diagnoses were examined based on median 2001 and median 2011 values.

The results showed that a total of 3,268 brain tumors were registered during the 14-year follow-up of 776,156 women who responded to the 2001 questionnaire. And the relative risk adjusted for using or not using a cell phone was 0.97 (95% confidence interval = 0.90-1.04) for all brain tumors, 0.89 (95% confidence interval = 0.80-0.99) for gliomas, and 1.0 for meningiomas, thus not statistically significant.

However, they found no statistically significant associations overall or by tumor subtype when comparing those who do not use to those who use daily over a 10-year period. using 2011 as a baseline, no statistically significant associations were found for conversations of at least 20 minutes per week or for 10 years of use. There is no such thing, he said.
