Commentary
This study will be a national-level investigation of the correlation between schizophrenia and religious delusions.
The findings show that there is a correlation between the prevalence of schizophrenia at the national level and religion at the national level, and a strong negative correlation with atheism at the national level in 125 countries.
Multiple regression analysis showed that when controlling for cognitive ability and economic development, the proportion of variance explained was 2.9% (p <.005) for religiosity and 5.1% (p <.00005) for atheism.
An alternative causal interpretation of this association will be discussed.
