Oral drug therapy for acne

Acne, a chronic inflammatory disease of the follicular sebaceous gland unit, may affect more than 80% of teenagers.

And the therapeutic drug isotretinoin is widely recognized as a very effective treatment for severe acne. The paper presented here evaluates the efficacy and safety of oral isotretinoin for acne.

Conclusion.

In conclusion, we found no clear evidence that isotretinoin improves the severity of acne compared to standard oral antibiotics and topical treatments.

The study.

This paper reviewed 31 studies involving 3836 dermatology outpatients worldwide.

There were twice as many women as men.

The age range was 12 to 55 years.

The severity of acne ranged from mild to severe, but most participants had severe acne.

Most of the participants had severe acne.

Most participants had severe acne. Comparing oral isotretinoin with other treatments, such as placebo or antibiotics, at They evaluated different dosages and the course of treatment.

Three studies compared oral isotretinoin with oral antibiotics and any topical agent given to patients with moderate or severe acne for 20 to 24 weeks.

There was no difference between the respective treatments in reducing the number of inflammatory lesions.

In one participant, isotretinoin caused Stevens-Johnson syndrome.

In one participant, isotretinoin caused Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a generalized erythema and other symptoms of necrotic damage to the epidermis. It is a serious disease that has been designated as an incurable disease with fever and general malaise also being symptoms.

Fourteen studies compared different doses/courses of oral isotretinoin between 12 and 32 weeks. Participants had predominantly severe or moderate acne.

The two studies compared three different doses of isotretinoin at 20 weeks.

The low and daily regular doses were shown to have the potential to improve acne more than conventional treatments at 24 weeks.

The conventional dose of isotretinoin reduced the number of inflammatory lesions more than the low dose.

In addition, no serious illnesses were reported in the follow-up studies conducted during the study period, except for a case of Stevens-Johnson syndrome.

Reviewer's comments

Due to the serious limitations of the study design and the limited amount of data, the overall quality of evidence for all our primary outcomes was low. Therefore, the identified clinical trials neither support nor challenge the established place of oral isotretinoin in acne treatment.

Apparently, the study was not even able to do a meta-analysis, so it is not a conclusion that can be used to say that this drug is or is not effective.

There were some results that showed a decrease in the number of acne in those that controlled the dosage.

In Japan, this drug is sometimes prescribed by cosmetic surgeons for the treatment of severe acne.It was a paper that could not be clearly concluded whether it was effective or not. This is information that can only be used as a source of knowledge.

I used to work as a cosmetics salesman, and I was taught that acne can be cured by washing your face! That's what I was taught.

I don't know if there's any evidence to support this or not.

I don't know if there is any evidence for face washing, but I think people who really want to cure their acne should consult a doctor.

In such cases, one thing I can tell you is that you should follow the dosage of the medicine.

I'm not sure.
