Description.
As vaping becomes more popular, the association between adolescents, vaping, and social media is becoming more apparent due to advertising on social media. 2019 Florida Youth Tobacco Survey (N = 10,776) data were used to determine A logistic regression model of social media platform usage and e-cigarettes was conducted. Results show that use of four social media platforms is significantly associated with use of vaping, and daily use of Instagram is significantly associated with an increased relative risk of vaping.
Non-daily use of Snapchat was significantly associated with an increased relative risk of vaping,Non-daily use of Facebook was associated with an increased relative risk of vaping, and non-daily use of Twitter was associated with an increased relative risk of vaping. The conclusion was that the use of these platforms was found to increase the risk of vaping use, and therefore measures need to be taken to stop unwanted use.
Although safety was emphasized, it was explained that the health risks of vaping are the same as those of regular cigarettes, since various studies have reported addiction and other disorders caused by vaping.
