Mothers with a history of PTSD reject the COVID-19 vaccine.

The role of trauma in mothers' beliefs and intentions about vaccines

Findings highlight the potential utility of a trauma-informed approach in efforts to reduce COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. for mothers with a history of PTSD, addressing organizational mistrust, including toward the health care industry, may be an important factor to consider in the content, delivery, and mode, could be an important factor to consider.

Stephanie Milan, PhD, AnaLuísaBTDáu, MSc, The Role of Trauma in Mothers'COVID-19 Vaccine Beliefs and Intentions, Journal of Pediatric Psychology. 2021;, jsab043, https: //doi.org/10.1093/jpepsy/jsab043

Explanation

A total of 240 mothers were surveyed, and the results showed that mothers with a history of PTSD tended to have negative beliefs about the COVID-19 vaccine.

Those with a history of PTSD tended to have negative beliefs about the COVID-19 vaccine. Those with a history of PTSD were more likely to be distrustful of institutions and other people, and had higher levels of institutional distrust. The same tendency was observed in people with a history of trauma as well as mental illness, so it is necessary to provide them with appropriate knowledge about vaccines.

Since more than half of the subjects in this study reported a history of anxiety disorders, mood disorders, or PTSD, the results of this analysis indicate that even if the number of subjects is increased or people with no history of these disorders are included in the study, they are likely to refuse the vaccine if they have a history of these disorders.

Thus, the study raises the concern that children of mothers with negative beliefs may also lose the opportunity to be vaccinated.
