Increased physical activity reduces COVID-19 cases and mortality

Relationship between physical activity and COVID-19 cases and deaths: an analysis of US counties

The study results show that by the end of November 2020, the county had an average of 4577.97 ± 2410.86 cases per 100,000 population and 78.54 ± 71.46 deaths per 100,000 population. Most of the county residents reported being physically active: 72.63 ± 5.70. Finally, county-level physical activity retained a significant negative bivariate correlation with both cases (r = -0.14) and deaths (r = -0.23).

DESCRIPTION

This study investigated the relationship between COVID-19 cases and physical activity, and examined the county-level association between cases and deaths for each of 100,000 county residents. Areas included included 3142 counties, including the District of Columbia, with controls for subjective health assessment, percentage of uninsured, percentage of unemployed, median household income, percentage of female residents, percentage of white residents, percentage of residents aged 65 and older, and rural designation.

This study shows that people with high levels of physical activity have milder COVID-19 symptoms, shorter recovery times, and are less likely to infect others they come into contact with, but other studies have not focused on the relationship between physical activity and cases and mortality, or have not considered it important.

There is no reference to a guideline for physical activity, such as 0 hours per day or 0 hours per week, and the survey asks, "Did you do any physical activity outside of work in the 30 days? was included in the survey. The survey included the question, "Did you exercise in any way outside of work in the past 30 days?" Since the results were significant for that item and for the control group, it may not be a problem to do less, so why not practice some kind of fitness once a week?
