COVID-19

In this issue, we will discuss health foods claiming to be effective against COVID-19.

The Consumer Affairs Agency in Japan has issued a request for improvement and a warning to consumers regarding health foods claiming to be effective against COVID-19 and new coronaviruses.

These products are not often talked about, and there are some products that I didn't even know existed, but I would like to discuss them in this article to prevent health problems from spreading by purchasing them.

The products that have been requested to improve their claims are considered to be in violation of the Health Promotion Law and the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations, so please read carefully.

Dangerous health foods

The following text is quoted from the "Request for Improvement of Labeling of Products Claiming Prophylactic Effects against the New Coronavirus and Warning to General Consumers, etc." issued on February 19, 2021.

Anti-aging! Hydrogen supplements for the new coronavirus!

It smells bad, doesn't it?

The new coronavirus is caused by a magnesium deficiency, and taking vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, and selenium together with vitamin C strengthens the immune system against the virus.

This may sound plausible, but there are no research results to show the effectiveness of this combination or others.

Discovering a treatment for coronavirus based on birch mushrooms (chaga)

In the first place, claiming to be a "cure" is out of line.

Corona New Habit, a supplement containing LPS (lipopolysaccharide), an ingredient that supports natural immunity, is effective in preventing severe infections and reducing infectivity.

The results of the study, including the administration of this LPS, were published, but they were based on rat experiments.

When they say that this is effective for people, it is a very bad thing.

The reduced fermentation lactic acid bacteria works in a special way like a needle against the thin membrane called "embryo" of the coronavirus to inactivate more than 99.9% of the virus, and the reduced fermentation lactic acid bacteria extract makes the new coronavirus harmless.

No, these are in vitro results.

In order to win the battle against coronavirus, what is important now is to improve immunity, and DHA and EPA that keep the immune system functioning properly.

This is the kind of thing that is claimed to have some health benefits that are magnified.

I'm more concerned about the warnings about side effects of taking too much.

And so on.

There are many more, but they all have one thing in common.

Wording about improving immunity

Wording that says it removes viruses

The catchphrases are based on the results of research on these effects, giving the impression that they are effective.

However, if you take a look at the results of those studies, you will see that....

Dangerous Health Products

The following text is taken from the "Request for Improvement of Labeling of Products Claiming Prophylactic Effects against the New Coronavirus and Warning to General Consumers, etc." issued on February 19, 2021.

Manuka honey, which has even stronger bactericidal power than other honeys, has a bactericidal effect to prevent viruses.

The headline alone is enough to get you to write an article, or to get you to believe in its effectiveness.

In fact, there was a study conducted by a famous university that showed that honey is effective against viruses, but it needs to be considered as a treatment.

There was also a comparison with antibiotics, but I'm not sure how antibiotics are supposed to be administered for colds in the first place.

Expected to eliminate the new coronavirus! Virus sterilization rate: 99%! It works! It is also expected to be effective in eliminating the new coronavirus that is currently raging around the world.

I've seen a lot of commercials about this product, but if you look closely at the commercials, you will see that some of them say that they have not been tested on the new coronavirus.

That's what it means.

The new coronavirus is a virus with the same structure as the new coronavirus, and the coronavirus sterilization spray eliminates more than 97.9% of the virus! This is the first time I've ever seen such a product.

In the first place, why do these products spread when the existing ones are sufficient?

Is it a psychological strategy to take advantage of the anxiety that the number of infected people will not be reduced to zero even if the existing products are used?

Effective against the new coronavirus?

It seems that there was a claim like this in a building material, but on the contrary, I think it might cause some damage to the human body.

If you reconsider the propagation of the virus in the first place, you may be able to calm down.

Summary

This is only about half of what is displayed, but there are many catchphrases that are quite interesting.

Some of them, such as health foods, have been shown to have certain effects, but there is no evidence that they are effective against COVID-19, and some even ignore such evidence.

What about space sanitizers? There are many such products in the world.

There are many such products in the world, and I can sense that there are many situations where people are skeptical, or feel that the information presented is insufficient, and make or try further preventive measures.

Please be careful.
